Joint Statement on Glass Collection
Press Release On 8/10/2020 4:21:30 PM

The Local Council Association, GreenMT, GreenPak Coop and WasteServ Malta Ltd. wish to acknowledge the great effort being made by the public with regards to waste separation. However, as the country continues to make a collective effort to improve its environmental performance, we would like to note the following.

Glass mixed with other materials such as plastic bags, cardboard boxes and other waste items will no longer be accepted as from 1 September 2020. This is being done to ensure a high quality while maximising the reuse potential of the recycling material.

Residents are therefore encouraged to dispose of their glass in reusable containers such as the bins already distributed by WasteServ to all households or any other reusable container that can be used on a permanent basis.

Residents are being reminded that they can also use the various Bring-in-Sites, one of the two hundred iBiN (www.ibins.mt) for glass or go to one of the six Civic Amenity Sites across Malta and Gozo to dispose of their glass.

Those residents that reside in apartments are encouraged to have a common system for their block of apartments.

These measures to be introduced as of 1 September are being taken to ensure that the efforts of the public to wash and separate their glass are not undermined during collection by mixing glass with other materials, such as cardboard and plastic.

Those residents who have not yet collected the set of bins distributed by WasteServ can still do so.
