Bulky Waste

What is Bulky Refuse?

Items which are too large to be collected by the regular waste collection vehicles are referred to as bulky refuse. Such waste includes:

  • Furniture
  • Mattresses
  • Carpets
  • Tiles
  • Appliances
  • White goods
  • Electronic waste
  • Small quantities of waste generated from DIY
  • Tyres

How can one dispose of Bulky Refuse?

The General Public may dispose of bulky waste by:

  • Calling their Local Council to further inquire about the Bulky Refuse Service, which is offered free of charge in each locality;
  • Or by visiting one of WasteServ's Civic Amenity sites, which also offer a free daily service.

Commercial Entities must follow a different procedure, namely:

  • Contact a licensed waste contractor to transport the waste
  • Use a company vehicle to transport the waste. In this case, the company must first obtain two documents from MEPA: registration of the business vehicle as a waste carrier; and a waste consignment permit. Subsequently, the company must also obtain a waste transfer note from Wasteserv. For details on where different waste streams must be taken, please check out our Guidelines for Commercial Waste.

In the case of Contractors sub-contracted by a Local Council to collect residential bulky refuse, this waste may be deposited at the Civic Amenity sites, as instructed by the respective Local Council.
